Scobies Transport began moving buildings and over dimension loads in the 1980’s, as a means of diversification whilst continuing to run a rural based transport in the Eastern Southland township of Wyndham. The rural side of the transport was sold in the early 1990’s, allowing us time to concentrate on our other interests - building removals & relocations, heavy haulage, peat harvesting and farming.
Since then we have built our own relocatable two and three bedroom buildings for clients, and have also taken on a lot more boat transportation. Scobies Transport has the specialist capabilities to complete any over dimension loads. We have experienced personnel and certified pilots who can help you with all the necessary legislative requirements to move any type of load. Please contact us for your requirements.
Southland based Scobies Transport have been moving buildings, relocatable houses and over dimension loads since the 1980’s. This has taken us to some of the most remote areas in the country. We were heavily involved in the setting up and decommissioning of the buildings at West Arm and Deep Cove for the 2nd tail race tunnel for Meridian Energy, setting up and decommissioning the office for the Mossburn wind farm, moving dry kilns from the West Coast to Fielding, moving buildings around the South Coast / Southern Scenic Route – “Whispering Frog”, and the Police Station to Stewart Island. The Winter of 2011 was spent moving the Milford Sound Village to a temporary site, then returning all buildings to their new site, after this area was raised to allow for any floods.
Based in Wyndham, we build transportable houses in our yard to our clients specifications. This side of our business has developed into building new houses and selling them, trading in and buying houses. Our new 1, 2 or 3 bedroom houses can be altered to suit your requirements. We have a stock of buildings available for clients to purchase which can include 1, 2 or 3 bedroom homes, and most include standard piling and delivery to level site in Southland.
In 2011 we commissioned a modular trailer from China for very heavy and long loads. We were contracted to shift Real Journey's new boat the “Titiroa” from Bluff to Manapouri. This vessel was 24 metres long, 8 metres wide, and 8 metres high weighing approximately 50 tonne. This trailer gives us the capacity to move very heavy and long loads within the South Island.
